Best Coffee in Toowoomba: Specialty Cafes, Ruthven Street and the Garden City Scene
Toowoomba's specialty coffee scene has developed significantly in step with the city's growing reputation as a destination for lifestyle changes from Brisbane and southeast Queensland. Ruthven Street is the primary hospitality corridor in the CBD and has several well-regarded cafe operations that have set a high standard for espresso in a regional Queensland city. Margaret Street and the surrounding blocks in the CBD have specialty coffee operations serving the professional and retail market. The Toowoomba central markets and the Saturday morning market culture create a strong regular gathering point for the city's cafe community. Highfields and other outer suburban growth corridors have seen new cafe operations open as residential development continues. The Carnival of Flowers held annually each September is Toowoomba's signature event and significantly boosts cafe trade across the city during the spring festival period. Toowoomba's position on the Darling Downs at altitude gives it a more temperate climate than southeast Queensland, which supports year-round outdoor dining. Several Brisbane-trained baristas have brought southern specialty coffee standards to Toowoomba operations in recent years.
