Day Trips from Toowoomba: Darling Downs, Ipswich and the Range
Toowoomba sits at the top of the Toowoomba Range, 130 kilometres west of Brisbane, and serves as the gateway to the Darling Downs agricultural region. Day trips from the city include the Jondaryan Woolshed Heritage Precinct about 50 kilometres west, one of Queensland's most significant pastoral heritage sites with shearing demonstrations and working draft horses. The Southern Downs wine region centred on Stanthorpe and the Granite Belt is about two hours south via Warwick, offering cellar doors, apple orchards and a dramatically different Queensland landscape at altitude. Ipswich, 90 minutes east via the Warrego Highway, has a strong heritage railway museum and is a good base for exploring the western foothills. The Ravensbourne National Park rainforest north of Toowoomba offers cool-climate walking only 40 minutes from the city.
