Registrations for multi-age swim classes at two Toowoomba aquatic centres jumped 18 percent in the first week of July compared with the same period last year.

The increase follows the release of new Darling Downs Health activity guidelines that recommend water-based exercise for residents recovering from winter inactivity. Council records show the centres ran 142 group sessions last month, up from 119 in June 2025, as families and retirees seek low-impact options ahead of the spring flower festival community walks at Laurel Bank Park gardens.

Named venues and current offerings

The Clifford Park Aquatic Centre on Hursley Road runs parent-and-toddler splash classes each Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9.30am, while the Harristown Pool on South Street hosts adult lane fitness from 6am and over-60s aqua aerobics on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10am. Both sites accept online bookings through the Toowoomba Regional Council portal and offer concession rates for holders of a Seniors Card.

Community transport arranged by Darling Downs Health links residents from the Picnic Point Escarpment walk catchment to the Harristown site on session days, removing a common barrier for those without cars.

Session fees sit at $8.50 for adults and $5 for children or concession holders, with family passes priced at $22. Council data released this week lists 1,874 individual attendances across the two pools in the past fortnight, including 312 first-time participants.

Next steps for residents

Enrolments for the next four-week block open on 14 July through the council website or at either pool office. Participants are advised to check with their general practitioner before starting any new exercise program, particularly those with existing medical conditions.
