Named sites receiving upgrades
Work has already begun at the Toowoomba Sports and Leisure Centre on Margaret Street, where two new change rooms and an indoor multi-use court opened in April. The same complex now links directly to a 400-metre running track that was resurfaced in 2025. Meanwhile, the University of Southern Queensland oval on West Street received LED floodlights funded jointly by the state government and the university, allowing night training for soccer and touch football sides that previously shared limited daylight hours.
These changes sit within a broader pattern. Council records show 18,400 registered participants across 62 clubs in the 2025-26 financial year, up 11 per cent from the previous period. Ticket sales at Harristown Park home games averaged 1,850 spectators per round in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition, compared with 1,420 two seasons earlier.

Bookings for the new Margaret Street courts open online through the council portal from 15 July, with junior sessions priced at $8 per hour. Residents wanting to inspect the West Street lights can attend the open training session scheduled for 22 July at 6 pm. Further funding rounds for club equipment grants close on 30 September.
