Toowoomba Clubs Thrive and Build Community Ties
Membership growth at local sports groups shows how clubs across the city connect residents through regular training and events.
How we reported this

Toowoomba sports clubs added 450 new members since May this year, pushing total registrations past 2,450 across junior and senior teams.
The increase arrives as winter fixtures fill grounds every weekend and families look for affordable local activities on fixed household budgets.
At the Toowoomba Sports Ground on Margaret Street the Rangers football club runs three extra junior sessions each week to handle demand. In the Newtown neighbourhood the Lions rugby league outfit opened its clubrooms on Ruthven Street for free community dinners on Thursday nights.
Programs draw in new participants
The Rangers program started in late June and already lists 120 children aged eight to twelve on its books. The Lions dinners began on 3 July and have fed 85 people each week, many of them first-time visitors to the venue.
Both clubs charge $95 for senior memberships and $65 for juniors, prices unchanged since 2024. Data from the Toowoomba Regional Council shows volunteer hours logged at these two sites rose from 1,200 in the same period last year to 1,650 this season.
Next steps for residents
Anyone wanting to join can register at the Rangers office on Margaret Street before 20 July or attend the Lions open night on Ruthven Street this coming Saturday. Details appear on each club's website and at the council sports desk in the city library.
